Robert Thornton continued his resurgence with a stunning victory over James Wade in the German Darts Championship.
The Thorn produced a fine display to beat his old pal The Machine 6-3 in the latest leg of the European Tour on Saturday.
It’s the second successive last 16 appearance now for Thornton on the Tour and show signs of him coming back to form.
He admitted: “I’ve had some classics with James over the years and we’ve always been good mates. We’ve helped each through some hard times.
“We had that amazing Grand Prix match a few years back when we both got double-start nine-darters dubbed the greatest match of all-time!
“Funny enough, he’s never someone I really want to beat. We have so much mutual respect it’s hard to get fired-up for it.
“But that’s darts for you, you just have to get on with it and forget about friendships. It’s a big result for me, I feel I’m getting better all the time.
“I’ve said for a while I feel like the form is back and now it is hopefully starting to show.”
