Tony O’shea remains in the hunt for the BDO Championship
2009 Finalist Tony O’shea continues his march towards the BDO Championship title after seeing off Scot Ross Montgomery in a quick 35-minute match.
Stockport born O’shea, currently seeded eigth at Lakeside, began the match with the throw and comfortably won the first set.
O’shea then continued his early-match form by taking the first leg of the second set against the throw, and then followed this up by defending his throw in the second leg. Montgomery finished the third set with a double eight finish after O’shea had missed doubles. But O’shea managed to compose himself and finish off the second set to take a 2-0 lead.
The Stockport-born player breezed through the third set with ease, complete with two 180’s and a 81 finish completed on the bull to extend his match lead to 3-0.
The fourth set saw a swing in momentum as Montgomery managed to claw back a set to make it 3-1.
The momentum was now firmly with Mongomery as he finished off an impressive 120-finish with a double tops finish. O’shea then replied with a 104 checkout, finishing on double 16.
The man from Stockport then finished with a 192 finish, complete with a bull to move within only one leg of the match. O’shea left himself on 36, and Montgomery need 160 to finish, hit two 60s, but failed with the double tops finish to leave O’shea to fire double 16, and progress into the last eight.
