Wayne Warren admitted he would have QUIT if he hadn’t booked his place in the quarter-finals of the BDO Worlds.
The Welsh wonder won a cracking clash with Willem Mandigers 4-2 to line-up a last eight clash with World No 1 Mark McGeeney at Lakeside last night.
Warren, 55, roared into a 2-0 lead but was pegged back by the Dutch star until a stunning 136 finish wrapped up a fine display.
The Tynewydd ace admitted: “I was absolutely nowhere near my best. After my first game I had high expectations of myself. Willem plays at such a quick pace and I played his pace instead of my own.
“But I’m in the quarters and a win is a win. I am happy man!
“The more you think about things, the harder it gets. I did start to think as he was clawing himself back into the match, too much about the game. You should never think of the game but I did actually start to do that.
“But I’m ecstatic and over the moon. The quarter-finals at Lakeside at my age?
“To be honest I’d like darts to be my job really. But I have an excellent sponsor for next year so I don’t have to fork out any money.
“I’m looking forward to this season ahead. I’m disappointed about the way I played today.
“If I had lost there you wouldn’t have seen me playing darts ever again. Because being 3-1 up I would have been so disappointed not to win it.
“But I got over the line and I’m so happy.”
