Wolverhampton on the darts map again after being chosen for new major open tournament - with world class events for the winner

Hundreds of darts players from the West Midlands are being sought for the inaugural Winmau BDO Open in Wolverhampton, with the chance to win a big cash prize and the opportunity to progress to two major world event titles.

The new event is being staged at the Wolverhampton Sports Arena, which has its own thriving darts community and the facilities to cater for the tournament, at its location in Racecourse Road, with an 18-board darts practice centre for players and room for a large audience.

With £3000 prize money on offer for the the event, on August 24th, it is already attracting interest from all over the Midlands, but Sports Arena owner Dharam Jagpal says they can cater for up to a thousand players. The winner will be entered into the playoff for the Winmau World Masters and the 2014 Lakeside world Championship.

The British Darts Organisation and equipment sponsors Winmau, chose the Wolverhampton Sports Arena because of its track record in promoting darts. "Owner Dharam Jagpal should be commended for his unwavering support of darts and its continual growth in the city," said BDO chairperson, Sue Williams.

Winmau, have already sponsored the arena^s top class darts centre, used by players in several leagues. Ian Flack, the company^s sales and marketing manager, said Dharam^s passion and knowledge is "incredible" and the venue has built up a huge following.

Dharam commented: "Wolverhampton is well and truly on the darts map of the UK and we^re expecting further growth and rising enthusiasm. This is a great venue, which has been thriving for over a decade and is going from strength to strength. We have a fantastic atmosphere, especially for our own Monday night league. This tournament is a golden opportunity for anyone who fancies their chances to shine."

Registration for the Open is by cheque or postal order for £10, with name, address and e.mail, to The Competition Secretary, British Darts Organisation, Unit 4, Glan-y-Llyn Industrial Estate, Taff^s Well, Cardiff, CF15 7JD. stamped, addressed envelope is essential if confirmation is required.
