Midland Red suffered a setback to their title aspirations in division one of the Harborne and District 401 Summer League when, for the first time in this current campaign they lost. Playing away to Smethwick Labour Club the Red’s finished on the wrong side of a very close 5-4 verdict. No fewer than 50 scores of a ton or more were recorded in the match with Smethwick’s A.Arnold chalking up a maximum plus nine other three figure scores, best finish went to the visitors T.McGlone who checked out on 155.
The George kept up their push for honours with a 7-2 victory at Bartley Green F.C. Old Mill’s N.Malem had a 160 break in his side’s 5-4 win over Quinton Members Club, whose M.Tonks hit a 180.
In division two leaders Harborne Stores began the second half of the season where they left the first with a 6-3 win against Stonehouse. Raven moved into second spot with a 7-2 success over Quinborne.

Robbie Earl, reigning champion of the Brook Meadow Individual League started the new season on a high by first beating newcomer to the league Brian Cooper 3-0 and following that up with a 2-1 success over last seasons nearest rival, runner up Mark Birch.
In the curtain raiser to the season Ian McFarlane produced an unassailable highest finish of 170 in a 2-1 victory over another new face to the league Joe Hall.

After a somewhat surprising 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Who’s last week in the G.U.L.P. Charity League, the Beasts bounced back with an impressive 6-1 home win over reigning champions Barmy Army. The win keeps Beasts hopes of a top three finish alive. Red Devils moved two places up the table and joint top of the shadow league after a close 4-3 win against the Sharks, fellow shadow league hopefuls the Who’s lost their points advantage as they slumped to a 7-0 whitewash as they travelled to take on league leaders Tigers. Bromford, bidding to become the fifth different team to win the league title in as many seasons moved into second place in the table and only two points adrift of leaders Tigers after a 6-1 home win over Lions.

Just a couple of division two games were played in the Pip Club League this week. Tamworth Sports Bar moved within one point of leaders Hopwas Club with a 7-1 victory over Red Lion ’B’ and still have the advantage of having played one game fewer than Hopwas, even a draw would see them move into pole position.
The other fixture was between Boot Inn (Grendon) and Glascote Club. Prior to the match both teams were without a win in eight outings. The result was a 5-3 success for Boot Inn to take them three points ahead of the bottom two teams. Boot’s Ben Hawksworth hit a maximum.
