With only one fixture remaining in the premier division of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championships, Warwickshire have still just one win to their credit, a 21-15 home success against Essex back in November. Their most recent match was an away game against Lancashire in which the ladies performed well but again the men’s sides were unable to record a win between them and the result was a 21-15 defeat.

Both men’s teams have so far chalked up one win and against Lancashire the ‘A’ side lost 7-5 and the ‘B’ went down 9-3, Kevin Dowling (28.17) and Mick Gorst (26.84) won the respective match awards. Once again Trina Gulliver (23.54) was the ‘A’ tams top player in a 4-2 victory, while Julie Dwyer (20.57) won the ‘B’ teams award in a match that finished all square at three each.

With just two games to the end of the season in the Four Oaks and District League Midland Red hang on to their two points advantage over Anvil Nomads and Good Hope Flights with an 8-1 away win over lowly Bromford Lions. Anvil Nomads and Good Hope Flights kept the pressure on the leaders as in turn they beat Hardy Spicer 6-3 and Boldmere Sports 7-2.

R.Hawker (Midland Red) and M.Austin (Hardy Spicer) both hit maximums. The highest break of the week, 160 went to Barn Social’s J.West, who also had a 140 break.

Robbie Earl, former champion of the Brook Meadow Individual League, has his sights set on reclaiming the title this season as he takes over pole position in the current campaign following a 2-1 win over Gordon Clinton and 1 3-0 success against Jay Murray. Earl with 50 points is two clear of second in the table Carl Winters, who lost the number one spot after suffering a 2-1defeat at the hands of Jason Evans.

----------------------------------

The Harborne and District 301 Winter League have been busy playing off their individual knockout and taking the honours was the George’s representative Eddie Simpson. Simpson was in good form throughout the competition as he beat Craig Hall in the last eight, Steve Wenlock in the semi’s and Tom McGlone in the final. McGlone showed his best form in the semi’s, where he beat Dave Bourne 2-1 recording 2x100 breaks, a 120 break, 101 and 100 finishes and a score of 100, however, he then lost in two straight legs in the final.

The title race in the Small Heath League looks like going to the wire as the two top teams, Mitre and Bromford Bridge Members Club ‘A’ both continue to extend their winning runs. Mitre who are currently leaders of the league, won their tie at Potcheen Still 6-3 to give them 28 points from 16 games. Meanwhile, Bromford Bridge Members Club ’A’ had a narrow 5-4 victory at home to fourth place Victoria 301 Club, giving them 26 points, but from one game fewer than Mitre. A win from their game in hand would definitely see Bromford overtake their rivals as they would have the better average. The title will certainly go to one or the other of these two teams as the rest of the field are a massive ten points adrift of the leaders.
