Warwickshire County Darts Organisation round off their premier division campaign in the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championships this coming weekend with a home tie against Cheshire at the Canley Sports and Social Club, Marler Road, Coventry.

Players selected for the the last fixture in the 2005-2006 season are, Men’s ‘A’:- T.Ryan, D.Honey jnr, D.Honey, S.Hine, T.Aldridge, K.Dowling, T.Brown, R.Hawker, C.Laffar, M.Carter, M.Angell, D.Buckley, Men’s ‘B’:- N.Heydon, S.Dwyer, D.Atkins, B.Jones, J.Brooks, M.Wittey, C.Green, M.Gorst, N.Grant, T.Frost, D.Clarke, T.McGlone, Reserves:- M.Slater, P.Merrett, D.Dunn, S.Hawkes, P.Livingstone, I.Scattergood, Women’s ‘A’:- T.Gulliver, C.Bywaters, L.Newcombe, V.Byrne, J.Hill, V.Franklin, Women’s ‘B’:- H.Rigg, J.Dwyer, D.Barbier, C.Pike, C.Dickens, B.Sinnett, Reserves:- P.Thornton, D.Weston, N.Harris, W.Adams, M.Jennings, D.Burke.

On Saturday May 6th Warwickshire Darts Organisation will be staging a new competition for, the Dennis Roberts and Roy Alford Memorial Pairs Trophy. There will be separate knockouts for men and women, with a ruling that a least one player must be a fully signed up member of either the men’s or ladies Warwickshire Super League.

Prize money will be dependent on the number of entries.

The events will be held at the Cherry Tree Sports and Social Club, Coventry, with roll call at 7.00pm and match play commencing at 7.30pm. There will be a £6.00 entry fee.

As the Four Oaks and District League season fast draws to a close, Anvil Nomads, second in the table prior to the latest games travelled to Old Oscott WMC. Nomads opened up a 4-2 lead, but the hosts won the last three games to snatch a surprising 5-4 victory. As a result Nomads have dropped to fourth place, four points behind leaders Midland Red who have now won the championship on 34 points. Good Hope Flights won their match against Hardy Spicer and although they are only two points adrift of the Red’s are way behind on average and cannot catch them. Hardy Spicer’s Matt Austin recorded a 120 break, hit 120,100 and a 180 and still lost his game against Good Hope. M.Gaughan (Good Hope Flights) and J.Collins (Bromford Lions) also notched a maximum.

Both of the top two players in the Brook Meadow Individual League lost a match this week. Robbie Earl continues to hang on to pole position with 56 points despite a 2-1 reversal against his nearest rival Carl Winters who hit a 180 and registered a 15 darts leg. Earl then went on to beat John Whitehouse 3-0 hitting 180,140,3x100 and chalking up outshots of 130 and 110, while Winters went down 2-1 to Andy Sheen. Jason Evans and Ross Macken also hit a maximum.

Third placed Ian McFarlane took advantage of the top two dropping points and closed the gap on them with 3-0 wins over Simon Winters and Terry Blakemore.

The doubles finals were on the Harborne and District 301 Winter League’s agenda, the final turning out to be an all George affair. Winning the title with a close 2-1 verdict were A.Stevens and L.Dowd, with R.Green and A.Powell runners up.

In the semi finals of the league cup the George were on the mark again as they beat Old Mill 5-4. R.Waldron and J.Walker hit 180’s for Old Mill, but the team as a whole had problems with finishing doubles and it cost them dearly.

In the other semi Midland Red strolled to a comfortable 7-2 win over Hillyfields, T.McGlone and P.Brotherton both having 160 breaks.

A nine darts leg from M.Cooper helped his side, Brook Meadow to a 9-0 whitewash over Hen and Chickens in the premier division of the Sheldon adn District Winter League. A 154 finish by N.Robinson (Shard End RBL ’A’) was to no avail as his team lost 6-3 at Sheldon Dukes.

In division one Pavilions were on form as R.Agar and A.Richards both had ten darts legs, R.Baker went one better checking out in nine darts in a 6-3 win over Lea Hall Sports and Social. Best win of the division went to Stechford Social, an 8-1 success over Old Bill and Bull.

It remains a race to the finishing line in the Small Heath League as current leaders Mitre won 8-1 against Victoria Flights to give them 30 points from 17 games and second placed Bromford Bridge Members Club ‘A’ won by the same margin at Wagon and Horses giving them 28 points from 16 games.
