A Look Back In Time 17.05.2006
The Sheldon and District Winter League have been engaged with the play off of their singles knockout. Winner of the event was Sheldon Dukes man Paul Sunner, but he was made to fight hard all the way to the title.
In the quarter finals Paul faced up to Dean Young from Mackadown Sports and Social and went through to the final four with a close 2-1 verdict. Dean Grainger (Fordbridge Social) was Paul’s next hurdle. Again the result was a close 2-1 affair, which proved to be the case in the final in which the champion accounted for Highwood’s Mark Wall to lift the winner’s trophy.
As the league’s programme fast draws to an end, in fact only one fixture remains outstanding and that is in division one, most of the issues have already been decided. The premier division title goes to Saltley Amateur Gardeners with a total of 36 points, two more than their nearest rivals Highwood. Finishing at the foot of the table, without a win all season was Hen and Chickens.
The outstanding fixture in division one is RAFA versus Shard End Social and that result will decide where the winners silverware will go. Shard End and Raven are both on 32 points, should Shard End lose their final game Raven would take the title with a superior average. The second division race was won by Kingshurst Labour Club who with a massive eight points advantage over runners up Harvester ran away with the title.

After completing 24 of the scheduled 32 games in the Brook Meadow Individual League, former champion Robbie Earl, on 95 points has opened up a nine points lead at the top of the table over Jason Evans. Still in contention are reigning champion Mark Birch and Ian McFarlane who are currently both on 84 points.
Carl Winters is holding on to seventh position with 66 points, however, he has only played 20 fixtures and 100% wins in the outstanding games would give him a total of 86 points and put him level with second in the league Jason Evans.
