In their most recent Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championship fixture in division three West Midlands played hosts to Bedfordshire at the Gilberts Bar, Willenhall. The weekend did not get off to a very good start as the ladies ‘B’ side finished on the wrong side of a 4-2 scoreline, their two winners Debbie Hackett and Sue Smith, the latter taking the match award with a 14.88 average. The men did a little better as they earned a draw after trailing 4-2 then leading 6-4. Adrian Arnold (25.91) was their top man.

Sunday’s games saw the ladies draw 3-3 and the men win 7-5 to chalk up an overall 18-18 draw. Taking the match awards for the ’A’ teams were Avtar Singh (30.22) and Angie Perry (21.78).

There were mixed fortunes at the top of the Harborne and District Winter League as leaders George had a 7-3 win at the New Inns, while second in the table Midland Red went down 6-4 at Smethwick Labour Club. Nevertheless George remain in pole position with 28 points from 16 games, Midland Red are four points adrift but do have a game in hand. In the New Inns game I.Tucker scored a maximum for the home team, while E.Simpson recorded a 160 break for the George. D.Hempenstall (Bartley Green F.C) also hit a 180 as his side ended all square at 5-5 with the Pheasant.

In the second division, champions Quinborne Flights took their 100% record to sixteen games with a convincing 9-1 verdict over Stonehouse Flights. Cock Inn are Quinborne’s nearest rivals and are a massive eight points behind. They surprisingly lost 6-4 at home to Bartley Green Social Flights. M.Tonks (Quinton Members Club) notched a maximum as his team won 8-2 at Highlander Flights.

The Sheldon and District Winter League were involved in their League Cup semi finals this week. In the premier division Three Horse Shoes and Highwood had 6-3 wins over respective opponentd Toby Jug and Fordbridge Social. In division one Sheldon Social were the biggest winners, taking out Lea Hall Sports and Social with a 7-2 result. Joining them in the final will be RAFA who accounted for Stechford Social with a closer 5-4 verdict.

The division two final will be fought out between Old Bill and Bull and Small Heath Amateur Gardeners after Old Bill and Bull beat Shard End RBL Flights 5-4 and Small Heath won 6-3 against Millhouse.

The Sheldon and District Summer League will be holding their AGM at the league headquarters Lea Hall Sports and Social this coming Sunday. The meeting will get underway at 10.30am. Anyone interested in entering a team for the forthcoming season should attend this meeting.

The divisional Challenge Cups were on the Tamworth Cue Sports League fixture card and in the first round there were wins for Dolphin, Red Lion ’A’, Queens and White Lion (Bye), who in turn defeated Globe, Red Lion ’B’, Two Gates Club. In round two Dolphin beat Red Lion ’A’ and Queens beat White Lion.

In round one of the division two games there were wins for Three Horse Shoes, Royal Oak, Boot (Grendon) and Kettlebrook. On the losing end were Hopwas, Pretty Pigs, Mercian and Cue Sports Club.

Royal Oak and Kettlebrook will contest the final after respective wins over Three Horse Shoes and Boot (Grendon).

The Warwickshire Darts Organisation are staging a weekend of darts on the 16th and 17th July at the Barrras Social Club, Coventry Street, Coventry. On the Saturday is the Guinness Open, which carries a guaranteed first prize of £250, plus all entry fees on the day paid out to the last eight players. The entry fee is £4.00. Anyone requiring any further information should contact Neil Pritchard on 07721-386908.

The following day the prestigious Midland Open will be offering the eventual winner of the men’s event £1000, plus prize money down to the final sixteen and £300 for the ladies, with payouts for the last eight. There will also be a £250 bonus for anyone recording the first nine darts leg.

Entry fees are £7 for advance bookings and £8 on the day for the men and for the ladies £5 and £6. Again Neil Pritchard is the man for more details.
