A Look Back In Time - 27.04.2005
It had to happen, Robbie Earl has lost his first game in the Brookmeadow Individual League and it came in the eleventh match. Despite outscoring his opponent Andy Smith by hitting 107 plus 4x100, to Andy’s 140 and 100, Earl finished on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline. Smith was again out-tonned in his next game with Mark Showering, a game in which Showering also recorded a fifteen darts leg, but nevertheless it was Smith who yet again got the 2-1 verdict.
A couple of the league Singles Knockout quarter finals were played off and saw league leader Robbie Earl chalk up a straight 3-0 win over Paul Hogan and John Whitehouse beat Dave Elkin 3-1.

All of the top half teams in the Small Heath League won this week. Leaders Custard House had a 7-2 home win over McVeighs, while second in the table Mitre, also playing at home, beat Wagon and Horses 6-3. Third placed Victoria 301 Club had a massive 8-1 success at Victoria Flights, while their nearest rivals Ward End Ex Service Club had a 5-4 win at Innisfree, who’s John McCaffrey chalked up a tremendous maximum break of 170.
Completing the top half wins was Gunmakers Arms who handed out an 8-1 thrashing to bottom of the table Victoria Inn.

After only five fixtures have been played in the G.U.L.P. Charity League, Tigers are the only team able to boast a 100% record. Their latest encounter was with one of their nearest rivals Malt Shovel. It was a very close match with the result not decided until the very last leg of the final game, the 4-3 win going to the Tigers. The Tribe move into second place after a comfortable 6-1 over Victoria 301 Club, but both they and Malt Shovel are two points adrift of the Tigers.

Globe, who are currently in pole position in division one of the Tamworth Cue Sports League, had a bye this week. However, the two nearest teams to Globe, Dolphin and White Lion did not make the most of the games as both of finished all square against respective opponents Queens and Red Lion ’B’, and as result Globe stay top by two clear points and now have a game in hand.
In division two Kettlebrook and Cue Sports are both level on twelve points. Both teams had close 5-3 wins, the former over Royal Oak and the latter against Three Horse Shoes.

There was a top of the table clash in division one of the Harborne and District Winter League with leaders George taking on second in the table Midland Red. The result was a win for the George, giving them 32 points from their scheduled 19 fixtures and Midland Red 26 points with one more game to play.
In division two Quinborne Flights completed their fixture card with a 7-3 win over Highlander Flights to end the season with a 100% win record. They are twelve points clear of Cock Inn, who have a game to play, but both teams will finish the season in their current positions.

The Warwickshire Darts Organisation are staging a weekend of darts on the 16th and 17th July at the Barrras Social Club, Coventry Street, Coventry. On the Saturday is the Guinness Open, which carries a guaranteed first prize of £250, plus all entry fees on the day paid out to the last eight players. The entry fee is £4.00. The following day the prestigious Midland Open will be offering the eventual champion of the men’s event £1000, plus prize money down to the final sixteen and £300 for the ladies winner, with pay-outs for the last eight. There will also be a £250 bonus for anyone recording the first nine darts leg.
