Warwickshire County Darts Organisation began their 2004/05 campaign in the premier division of the BDO Inter Counties Championships in the best possible way as they kicked off the season with a tremendous 25-11 home win against newly promoted Cumbria.

Playing at Canley Sports and Social Club, Coventry the ladies set the ball rolling when their ‘B’ side beat their counterparts 4-2 to set the pattern for the weekend. The men’s ‘B’ then followed up with a cracking 10-2 victory, with Julie Dwyer (17.87) and Prakash Jiwa (26.94) winning their respective lady and man of the match awards.

Sunday’s games saw another 4-2 win for the ladies, Clare Bywaters (24.05) recording the top average. Then rounding off a perfect weekend the men’s ’A’ chalked up a 7-5 success, Tom Ryan’s 29.47 average their highest of the match.

West Midlands season in the third division was not so good as they, also playing at home went down 19-17 against Merseyside. Both ladies sides finished all square at 3-3, the men’s ’B’ was another drawn game at 6-6. However, the ’A’ side were unable to match the feats of their other three teams and lost 7-5.

Match awards went to Darren Williams (32.67), Frank Johnson (26.84), Kath Jenkins (18.26) and Claire Hobbs (15.23).

A 148 break plus an eight darts leg from M.Buckley was not enough for his team, Selly Oak Flights to avoid a 5-2 defeat at Longbridge United in the first division of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League. Mick Brown hit a maximum for Longbridge. Another team to win by a 5-2 margin in the first division was Stirchley United WMC, with E57 on the receiving end.

It was not a good week for the Tascos teams as in the second division Tascos Brunswick lost 5-2 to Stirchley Wanderers and Tascos Social went down 4-3 to Longbridge 26’ers. In division three Tascos Flights also lost, going down 5-2 at Bournbrook Arrows.

The Sheldon and District Winter League began their 2004/05 season this week and in division one all six fixtures ended with 5-4 scorelines. Winners were RAFA, Harvester, Stechford Social, Vaughans, Pavilions and Shard End RBL ’A’, who in turn defeated Sheldon Social (J.Toney 180), Lea Hall Sports and Social, Raven, Banbury Club, British Telecom Club and Shard End Social.

Sheldon Dukes were the biggest winners in the premier division, a 6-3 home success against Glebe Community Centre, while in division two it was Sedgemere Flights who had the honour with a 7-2 win over Gunmakers Arms.

The G.U.L.P. Summer League are staging their singles knockout at four venues. In this week’s knockout at the Innisfree the two winners going through to the last eight are Chris Newman (Great Western) and Colin Wyatt (Gunmakers Tigers). On the way to his win Wyatt hit a maximum and had breaks of 120 and 108 plus further scores of 3x100.

The Globe extended their lead at the top of division one of the Tamworth Cue Sports League, with a 5-3 win at third placed Dolphin, while second placed Queens could only manage a draw at home to Two Gates Club. Globe now have 15 points from nine games, while their nearest rivals Queens have played one game more and are three points adrift.

In the second division leaders Red Lion ‘A’ handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their opponents Boot (Grendon). Three Horse Shoes held on to the number two spot with a 5-3 win at bottom of the table Jolly Sailor.
