It was tons galore in the division one encounter between E57 and Greenlands in the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League. No fewer than 28 three figure scores were recorded in the fixture with newly promoted E57 hitting 16 and Greenlands 12, but the all-important 5-2 result went in favour of the latter.

In division two, another promoted team, Longbridge 26’ers chalked up a fantastic 4-3 win at Northfield Wanderers, J.Burns hitting a maximum to help the 26’ers to their victory. Just one result from division three, which saw Bournbrook Arrows gain a narrow 4-3 win over Shenley Lane.

With a 3-0 win against Pat Koyce and a 2-1 success over Mark Elkin, Robert Earl maintains his 100% record in the Brookmeadow Individual League. 28 points from six games has given Earl a four point’s advantage over his nearest rival Ricky Lawrence, who had similar 3-0 and 2-1 wins over respective opponents Paul Hogan and John Whitehouse.

Players hitting maximums this week were Pat Koyce, John Whitehouse, Trevor Frost (2), Robert Earl and Gordon Clinton.

Tomorrow night the Sheldon and District Winter League will be staging the finals of their Singles Championship. Sixteen players will be chasing the title and line up as follows, Peter Brogan (Sheldon Dukes), Steve Hunt (Sheldon Social), Tony Henderson (Lea Hall Sports and Social), Steve Harding, Anthony McCrave (St Annes), Tony Randell, Phil Randell, Alan Caddick (Saltley Amateur Gardeners), Ian Durrington (Small Heath Amateur Gardeners), Bill Cadby (Castle Vale Residents Association), John Rudd, Ian Spencer (Three Horse Shoes), Fred Goldbey, Pat Sinnett (Malt Shovel), Neil Parsonage (Banbury Club), Paul Nunn (Highwood).

In the final fixtures of the season in the Small Heath Winter League the Victoria 301 Club suffered their first defeat of the campaign, a 6-3 home loss at the hands of the Custard House outfit. Helping Custard House on their way was Darren Brown who notched a maximum. Nevertheless, with 16 points from nine games Victoria 301 Club held on to pole position and won the title as second placed McVeighs, who beat Gunmakers Arms 5-4 finished four points adrift and took the runners up spot.

The new season will get underway on the 8th June.

The Longwood League have been busy with the play off of their Doubles Knockout. Taking the honours with a final victory over Paul Whittaker and Mark Martin, were Andy Hanslow and Tony Goodwin.

Losing out in the semi-finals were, Wayne Hewins and Martin Canes, and Andy Starvey and Chris Payne..

The league will be holding their AGM at the Queens, (located on the A5 at Tamworth) on Sunday 9th May beginning at 11.00am. Anyone wishing to enter a team for the forthcoming season should either attend this meeting or alternatively leave their details at the Queen prior to the AGM.
