A LOOK BACK IN TIME - ALAN TOWE 09.10.2002
Congratulations to Peter Allen, who in the very last game and the last leg of that game, has won the Sportsmans Rest Double Top League championship. Allen’s final fixture was against his nearest rival David Platt. Platt won the tussle 2-1, but it was not enough to stop his opponent claiming the title.
Platt made amends by winning the singles knockout. A final victory over Richie Shenton gave Platt his victory. Losing semi-finalists were Steve Cain and Pat Koyce. Barry Stephens and Paul Cummings took the doubles crown with Pat Koyce and Tony Pedley finishing as runners up.

Allen has also won the Minworth Social Individual League title by a massive twelve points over his nearest rival Pat Koyce. Last season’s champion, Mark Hollyoake ended in third place a further four points adrift of Koyce. However, Hollyoake was more than compensated when with an emphatic 7-1 victory over Gary Mills he won the singles knockout. The doubles title went to Carl Betteridge and Lesley Newcombe, who beat Pat Koyce and Tony Pedley 5-2 in the final.
